We're going GREEN!!!!

For those of you that know me personally, you know the two words I would never utter are "GO GREEN (the mantra of that other in state school)"! I am a proud University of Michigan alum and I bleed maize and blue. I have fond memories of screaming "GOOOOOOOOO BLUUUUUUUUUUE" while watching my beloved Wolverines dominate their opponent in the Big House........sigh, good times. I hope we return to that greatness soon......anyway, on to cupcakes.

So, yes, we're going green for one day only but I have a good reason for it. St. Patty's Day!!! I'm not Irish and have never really seriously celebrated St. Patty's Day - but since I've started doing cupcakes I want to celebrate every holiday with a cupcake! St. Patrick's Day is no different. I love thinking of yummy flavors to reflect the spirit of the holiday. We're offering two special cupcakes in honor of St. Patrick's Day......try them and you'll want to kiss me like I was Irish! :)

Our signature red velvet is going green - moist green velvet cake topped with whipped cream cheese frosting. We also have a devil's food cupcake, topped with a fudgy ganache, and a swirl of irish cream frosting.

These aren't the exact cupcakes (these are vanilla almond cupcakes with vanilla bean frosting....you can get these also) but you get the picture! Festive, fun, GREEN!!!

Place your order today.....we will deliver to you tomorrow!

Until next time, sweet happiness!

A cupcake.....milkshake?

So, I know cupcakes have been all the rage for a while now. And why not, cupcakes are cute, portable, small pieces of happiness. Eating a cupcake can send you back to carefree, happy times. They are a welcome distraction to the stress and drudgery that many days can bring. That said, I've seen cupcakes everywhere lately, in all forms. Cupcake jewelery, plates, napkins, towels. Cupcake soap, lotion, teapot covers...you name it! On one of my very favorite blogs, Cupcakes Take the Cake they spotlighted cupcake cereal! Haven't seen it in stores or tried it yet, but plan to.

Anyway, today I delivered cupcakes an hour away to a very dear friend of mine.....hope you really like them Tina! On the way home I stopped at Burger King to get my brother in law lunch (he watched my two littlest ones while I was gone). I roll up to the drive through to place his order, and what do I see on the menu.....a (and I quote) "Cupcake Sundae Milkshake". Obviously, the word "cupcake" caught my eye. I had never seen or heard of a cupcake flavored milkshake. I didn't order it at that time, but by the time I got to the pick-up window I decided that I had no choice but to order the milkshake. I mean, in the name of cupcakes research, I had to order the milkshake! Here it is (pics taken in the comfort of my minivan - I couldn't let the milkshake melt)......

Its basically a vanilla shake with yellow cake flavoring....

On top of the yellow cake flavored shake is a big swirl of vanilla ice cream, topped with sprinkles.

See, the yellow cake shake on the side, with the vanilla on top?

Its very thick and comes with the biggest straw on earth (ok, I haven't verified that fact but I'm pretty sure my pinky finger fits inside it comfortably!)

My thoughts on the Cupcake Sundae Shake - its not bad. Tasty, but very rich and sweet...tastes kind of like the yellow cake ice cream that you find in the stores these days, even slightly like egg nog (which I don't like). There was no way I could drink it all.....my 2 year old benefited from the fruits of my research....she had a couple of spoonfuls for a snack and proclaimed it "delicious". Me, well I would never forsake my beloved cupcakes, but I think I'd take a plain vanilla shake over this one......the sprinkles were cute though!

Let me know what you think if you try it!

Until next time, Sweet Happiness!

OUR NEW LOGO!

So, no doubt about it! I have been a bad, bad blogger! I guess its because I'm trying to find the time to blog in between baking cupcakes, researching ways to package and sell my cupcakes, trying to market my cupcakes, think about shipping my cupcakes....(you get the picture.....its all about the cupcakes!) and taking care of my four, yes FOUR kids (6 years and under), and handling the household. So, the question of the year is.........when do I find time to blog when I can barely use the bathroom!!!!!!!....I know, TMI, but seriously. I'm really going to try and do better.....really!

You know I have been talking about my new logo and website for months now. And you've probably been thinking that maybe it was never coming.....but its finally here! The logo has been revealed. I really love it and think that it conveys the "spirit" of redvelvetcupcakes! Its cute, but now overly (like a smiley face cupcake or something like that), the pink heart shows that I bake my cupcakes with love, and sweet happiness.....well that's what cupcakes are to me....a sweet little bit of happiness. They make people smile.....and darn it, that makes me feel really good!

So, tell me how much you love my new logo. The website is coming soon..... I CAN'T WAIT to reveal it to you guys!

Until next time.....sweet happiness.

redvelvet...hearts.

This has been a pretty exciting week for us at redvelvetcupcakes. In spite of the slow (but steady) progress of our logo and website (we want to make sure it is absolutely PERFECTO) good things continue to happen to us. This week, we were mentioned on the country's number one cupcake blog - Cupcakes Take The Cake! I am super excited about our first mention on their fabulous blog which I read daily! You can read our spotlight here. I mean, really, until the logo and website are done I have been seriously limiting my marketing and advertising. This waiting is totally frustrating, but I don't want to put myself out there more than I already have, and then have to rebrand myself again! So, I have been baking, but not as much as I would like to. Regardless of where I am with the logo and the website I am going forward with my Valentine's Day Special.

A little bit about Valentine's Day......so, for some its really important. For me, not so much. I think it was a bit more important when I was in second grade and wanted to make sure that I got a card and some "kiss me" and "i love you" conversation hearts from every kid in the class.

Well, let me be honest. I mean, deep down in the depths of my heart, would I like to have a beautiful card, dozen gerber daisies (not roses), a surprise dinner out complete with new dress and heels? Sure, I guess that would be cool. Could my husband treat me to a night out at the MGM Grand hotel, with a full service day at the spa, chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, breakfast in bed, sure, whatever. Clearly I've given absolutely no thought whatsoever as to what would constitute the perfect Valentine's Day....ya think! But let's get back to reality. I'm the busy mom of four kids. Grammy and MiMi are out of town - and no one besides them wants to watch four kids for a night! Alas, pretty much the best I can hope for is a card and some conversation hearts! LOL! But you can do better my friend! You can tell your husband, boyfriend, lover, significant other, buddy, or whoever to order the redvelvetcupcakes VALENTINE'S DAY SPECIAL!

The Valentine's Day special includes six gourmet cupcakes. You get two signature red velvet cupcakes with whipped cream cheese frosting, two devil's food cupcakes with deep chocolate buttercream frosting topped with a signature red velvet heart, and new for the Valentine's Day Holiday - valentine confetti - vanilla cake with a hint of almond flavor, red sprinkles baked inside, white chocolate vanilla bean frosting, and a signature red velvet heart. The cupcakes will be beautifully packaged in a bakery box, wrapped with red ribbon, with your own personal message attached! The Valentine's Day Special is $30 (which includes delivery to the metro Detroit area).

Don't worry, I didn't forget - here's some pictures of my Valentine Day cupcake prototypes!

And another.......

Last one....

Until next time, spreading cupcake happiness!

Cookies and Cream at the Starting Line

So, this is not going to be a very long post. Why? Because honestly there is not much more to update you on. Still working on logo and website, still baking cupcakes for friends, family, and word of mouth clients. I will be really happy when I can start marketing full blast with my super cute logo-seriously wait till you see it! Its so, so cute!

Its a little annoying because I know I have an awesome product in these cupcakes and I just want to share them with the world! Ok, not literally the world, but southeast Michigan - my little corner of the world nonetheless. I'm generally feeling like I'm at the cupcake starting line waiting for the gun to go off! Trust me, my legs are getting tired from being in the starting position!!! Shoot the gun darn it, shoot the gun!!!

Sorry about my little rant, its just one of those days! Anyway, lets get right to the reason you visit this little blog anyway - the pictures......just wondering is there anyone out there besides my mom and brother? :)

Rich chocolatey devil's food cake baked with cookies on the inside and the top, topped with oreo buttercream, and a half of an oreo for garnish. These cupcakes are seriously yummy, and have become a favorite of many of my customers.

The frosting on these babies is light and fluffy, and the crushed oreos provides a "crunch" that you don't typically get with a cupcake. Its almost the perfect combination of cupcake and cookie!

Next post we should be able to preview my new logo! I can't wait!

By the way, have you joined us on facebook? Are you following me on twitter @rvcupcakes? If not, please join us, follow us!

Until next time, spreading happiness one cupcake at a time, or spreading cupcake happiness......or spreading sweet happiness......I'm thinking about a new tagline and taking votes. Which one do you like the best - please leave a comment and let me know.

The Threesome!

Seriously! Get your mind out of the gutter. This is a cupcake blog for God's sake! The threesome that I refer to in my title is a chocolate threesome...a chocolate cupcake threesome!

So, I had a lot of fun trying to figure out some yummy and creative ways to dress up one of our most popular cupcake flavors - you guessed it, chocolate. Almost everyone loves chocolate -whether its topped with vanilla bean buttercream, chocolate fudge ganache, strawberry buttercream, or chocolate buttercream - just to name a few. The possibilities are endless when it comes to chocolate. I mean, everything's better with chocolate right?

So, here some of what you came here for.....pics of the threesome!

From left to right....sweet chocolate cupcake topped with chocolate buttercream and vanilla bean whimsy, sweet chocolate cupcake topped with chocolate fudge ganache and vanilla bean whimsy, and sweet chocolate cupcake topped with chocolate buttercream and drizzled with fudge ganache. (I never claimed to be a professional photographer so please excuse the crumb!)

The view from the top.

Up close and personal.

No more pics for now, I think I've done enough to distract you from whatever it is you are supposed to be doing right now. You're probably drooling and making a mess of yourself and your keyboard! So, I suggest you just give us a call or send an email and order some of these right now!

Until next time, spreading happiness one cupcake at a time!

Confetti!

So, there's been A LOT of serious business going on lately with redvelvetcupcakes! We've been finalizing our logo, working out a deal with the restaurant that will carry the cupcakes, and getting a brand new website! Its enough to really stress someone out! That said, 2010 is going to be the year of redvelvetcupcakes! I can't wait!

Between now and then though, I decided I needed something to remind me of a carefree, more easy going time of my life. Childhood! Remember those funfetti cakes made by pillsbury (I think)? You know, the white cake with the sprinkles baked inside? I don't think I had funfetti cake till I was way beyond childhood - I'm talking college. My mom was that unique mother that worked outside of the home and still made everything homemade - cookies, cakes, pies - pretty much everything. Its funny how you don't appreciate the homemade slice of poundcake as a kid - you just want the greasy twinkie, or in this case, the slice of funfetti cake. Well, my kids are dealing with the same thing - they will never have a store bought cupcake at home (cupcakes only, store bought is my friend when it comes to almost everything else) - but I did use funfetti as inspiration to create something they love....the confetti cupcake.

Its a vanilla almond cake with sprinkles baked inside paired with a vanilla buttercream frosting and more sprinkles. If that doesn't scream childhood, I don't know what does!

And its not just a "cute" cupcake - check it out unwrapped, isn't it gorgeous!
